Santa's Winter Wonderland
The Sparta Chamber of Commerce and City of Sparta will host the Winter Wonderland Parade again this year.
With the success over the past years of the lighted holiday parade in Sparta during the Thanksgiving weekend, it has been decided to continue such a great family event this year. The parade was started 8 years ago by the Sparta Area Chamber of Commerce and then the 4th year The City of Sparta worked with the Chamber to help the parade grow. Now, it has grown with the help of many of the Clubs in Sparta, including VFW, Lions Club, Eagle’s, Rotary, Sparta Park Committee, Sparta 175 and Country Club. This year’s parade theme will be the 8th Annual "The Future Looks Bright", part of a Christmas Celebration throughout the entire community of Sparta.
Mayor Jason Schlimme and Michael Hayes for the Sparta Area Chamber of Commerce will spear-head the project with the assistance of numerous citizens and organizations of Sparta to provide a quality, family event for all ages.
After the parade, all are welcome to enjoy the Free chili (Donations accepted) provided by the VFW and the kids will be able to visit with Santa at the Sparta VFW. Chili will be provided to help keep you warm while watching the fireworks display. The fireworks will begin at 8:00 p.m. All events will take place on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the Sparta VFW.
With the 8th Annual "The Future Looks Bright" Lighted Parade. The parade will make its way from the high school up St. Louis Street to Broadway turn on Market Street to Osborn and back to the high school.
Line-up will begin at 4:30, and the parade will step off at 6 p.m. sharp with the grand marshal and color guards.
All participants are asked to pre-register for the parade by completing the form below, and agreeing the following guidelines:
1. All entries must be of a lighted format. Meaning lights powered by generator, battery or some other form to guarantee illumination.
2. Parade entries are asked NOT to have any type of dressed person, depicted as Santa Claus on their entry. This parade is to welcome Santa into town, he will appear at the very end of the parade.
3. Holiday music (Christian or secular) is very encouraged to add to the atmosphere of the event, whether recorded or live. However, it is the only type of music that will be allowed.
4. All entries are requested to be returned to Sparta City Hall by Friday, November 21st by noon. This will assist in arranging lineup of the parade. This does not mean that your business or group will not be able to participate. It only means that it will be organized better as far as presentation.
We certainly hope that you will be able to participate in the parade, as well as the other events that will take place afterward, and we look forward to hearing from you soon.
